SUSTAINABLE PRINCIPLES AND ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICES MAKE FOR GREAT TASTING BEER

Our brewery is central to our farming philosophy of sustainability and environmental responsibility. The farm works on a ”full circle” model. Our livestock reclaim and prepare our land for our hopyard, lavender and garden expansion. Pigs are our ploughs; excavator in the front, fertilizer spreader in the back, while chickens and turkeys fertilize as they weed. Our brewery produces spent grain which is used as compost and as feed for our livestock, the excess water from the brewery is recycled for irrigation and farm fresh resources like hops, local apples, lavender and honey are brought in from the fields to craft delicious brews and ciders – completing the circle.

A COMMUNITY SUPPORTED BREWERY

Community has been the biggest asset to the brewery. So much so, that neighbour, Gerald Jank, heard the hammers when building began and came over to see if he could lend a hand. He stayed and helped build almost every day until the brewery was finished. He was a metal artist, helping adding custom touches like a drain with the Meander River logo in the brewery and the metal sign on the front of our building.

The community comes around throughout the year to partake in harvests, enjoy the property, and enjoy the fruits of their labours after a hard days work.

Additionally, partial funding came from the community in the form of shares to the Community Supported Brewery Program prior to opening. Similar to that of a Community Supported Agriculture subscription, but for beer lovers who wanted their local brewery to succeed and be recognized for their support through a benefits program.
